NEWARK, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team concluded competition at the NJIT Invitational on Sunday morning, as the squad featured four Bobcats on the final day of action at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility Indoor Tennis Courts in Newark, N.J.

"Our girls fought very hard this weekend against some very talented players," said head coach Mike Quitko. "We are looking forward to some time off before our next match up at UConn. The rest will be key heading into our first dual match of the season."

After her first-round win in consolations yesterday, junior transfer Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) cruised past two opponents to advance to the championship match. She defeated two members of St. Peter's College, Adina Ungurean-Halagian, 8-2, in the quarterfinals and Joniesa Williams, 8-2, in the semifinals for a spot in the finals. Unfortunately, her run came to a close with an 8-3 loss to Alexandra Livingston in the championship match.

In the top half of the main draw bracket, senior Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) looked to climb higher in the all-time record-books with a win against Fairfield's Sharissa Ryan. Unfortunately, Cantor was on the wrong end of a 6-3, 6-1 defeat in the quarterfinal match-up.

In the bottom half of the main draw bracket, sophomores Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) took on opponents from the hosting Highlanders. Raynor was defeated by Jana Luste, 7-5, 6-2, and Dassa fell short to Ksenia Kuzmenko, 7-5, 6-0, in their respective quarterfinal match-ups.

The Bobcats will enjoy some time off before their next match, which also happens to be their first dual match of the 2012-13 season. Quinnipiac heads up to Storrs, Conn. on Wednesday, October 10 for a showdown with intrastate rival, UConn. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
