Quinnipiac freshman Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Month, as announced by the NEC today.
Raynor had an unbelievable first month for the Bobcats, posting a 13-2 record in singles and doubles play, combined. The first-year Bobcat had a strong showing at the Fairfield Doubles Festival, teaming with classmate Michelle Dassa to win the "B" Flight post wins against Providence (8-2), Fairfield (8-2), Sacred Heart (8-6), Connecticut (8-1) before knocking off host Fairfield (8-2) in the finals.
Playing on Quinnipiac's home courts for the first time, Raynor was 2-1 in the singles "B" Flight, posting wins against Sacred Heart (6-1, 6-0), Connecticut (6-2, 6-3) before losing to teammate Sarah Viebrock (2-6, 2-6) in the finals. In doubles play, Raynor and Dassa defeated Hartford (8-4), Connecticut (8-6) and Seton Hall (8-0) before facing teammates Veibrock and Juliet Labarthe in the all-Quinnipiac final.
At the Eastern Championships in West Point, N.Y., Raynor and Dassa once-again teammed to defeat Sacred Heart (8-1), Pitt (8-5) and Bowdoin (8-6) to advance to the finals.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it hosts the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 18 before heading off to the ITA Regionals at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, New Haven, Conn. on Oct. 21-23.
