Women's Tennis Rides 7-2 Record To Doubles Quarterfinals At 15th Annual Quinnipiac Invitational
HAMDEN, Conn. – Three Bobcats' doubles pairings advanced to the Quarterfinals of their respective flights on the first day of the Quinnipiac Invitational. The Bobcats, with two pairs in the Doubles Flight A bracket and another in the Doubles Flight B bracket, will resume play tomorrow.
In the A Flight, Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) and Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Ok.) received a first round bye defeating the doubles team from Fairfield, 8-2, to advance to their pairing against Seton Hall's Flight A representative. Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) defeated Hartford, 8-4, before knocking off UConn, 8-6. They will face a doubles team from Seton Hall.
In the B Flight, Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) won 8-1 against Sacred Heart and 8-0 against Army to move to final eight, paired against Seton Hall. Taylor Massey (Branford, Conn.) and Morgan Crystal (Ridgefield, Conn.) lost in the first round, as did Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) and Erin Suvar (North Massapequa, N.Y.). In the consolation bracket, both teams advanced, with Massey and Crystal to face UConn and Suvar and Cristescu to face Fairfield.
Play resumes at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Quinnipiac Tennis Courts in Hamden, Conn. with doubles and singles play before the tournament's final day on Sunday, Sept. 18.
