WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Junior Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) collected career win No. 100 as the #2 seeded Quinnipiac University women's tennis team cruised past #7 Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, in the Quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at the Mercer County Tennis Center. With the win, the Bobcats advance to the semifinals to take on #3 Sacred Heart tomorrow afternoon, a 2012 regular-season rematch set for 2 p.m.
Quinnipiac, now 9-11 overall, swept every official match on the day. In doubles action, Viebrock and Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) defeated Lucy Jasso, 8-1, in No. 1, while Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) clinched the first point with an 8-1 decision over Devynn Sarver and Laura Husband in No. 3. Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) were also leading in No. 2 doubles, 7-1, but didn't finish because of the first two wins.
Just like in doubles, the Bobcats rolled past the Red Flash in singles competition as well. Cantor topped Sarver, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 1, Viebrock knocked off Shivani Patel, 6-0, 6-2, in No. 3 and Cristescu capped off the victory with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Husband in No. 6. Raynor, Dassa and Launie were all leading when Quinnipiac completed the sweep.
The Bobcats defeated the Pioneers earlier in the season by a final score of 4-3 at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Quinnipiac earned five-of-six wins in singles and took two out of three in doubles.
