HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) capped off a thrilling victory for the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon, as she and the Bobcats earned a non-conference win over Fairfield University, 4-3, at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. In addition to Cristescu's triumph, junior Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) picked up career-wins No. 97 and No. 98, as she paired with fellow captain Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) to defeat a twosome from Fairfield University and won in No. 3 singles.

With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-11 on the season. Nonetheless, Quinnipiac's focus remains on the Northeast Conference Tournament, which is set to begin this weekend. The Bobcats were granted the No. 2 seed in the upcoming playoff and will take on Robert Morris Friday at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.

Viebrock and Cantor, now 6-1 in their last seven matches, began the clash with their 13th doubles win this season. The duo defeated Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn, 8-2, in No. 1, a win that pulled Cantor to within 10 until she reaches the 100-plateau for her career. Unfortunately, the Stags prevailed in the backend of doubles competition, propelling the visitors to an early 1-0 lead.

In the singles segment, the Bobcats bounced back and took four of the six individual match-ups. Viebrock defeated Koladzyn, 6-1, 7-6 (4), in No. 3, Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) topped Victoria Pirrello, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 4 and Erin Suvar (North Massapequa, N.Y.) defeated Emma Samson, 6-1, 7-6 (5), in No. 6. With the match hanging in the balance, Cristescu outlasted Nikki Jackson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, awarding Quinnipiac the intrastate triumph.

The Stags return to action on Friday, April 20 with an away match at Siena. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
