HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) collected career wins No. 94 and 95 on Tuesday afternoon, as the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 6-1 triumph over Sacred Heart University at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 7-9 overall and climb back to the .500 mark in NEC competition at 2-2.
The Bobcats used two strong showings in the doubles segment to take an early 1-0 advantage. Viebrock and Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) defeated Kate Donnelly and Kristina Chao, 8-5, in No. 1 and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) cruised past Lauren Rydzewski and Kristin Legenza, 8-1, in No. 2 for the point.
After a brief intermission, Quinnipiac picked up right where they left off in singles competition. Raynor collected her 11th win of the season against Rydzewski, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 2, Viebrock picked up her 95th career win against Donnelly, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 3, Dassa topped Chao, 6-1, 6-1, Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) defeated Legenza, 6-1, 6-1, and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) topped Maggie Tooley, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 6 for the final point.
Sacred Heart, now 8-10 overall and 3-2 in league play, hosts Rhode Island on Thursday afternoon in Fairfield. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
