ORLANDO, Fla. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team swept the doubles' segment and took four out of six singles' matches to defeat Bucknell, 5-2, on Thursday night, the final day of the Bobcats' 2012 Spring Break Trip. With the win, QU improves to 3-5 overall, building momentum for Northeast Conference play within the next two weeks.
Leading off the match was a dominating performance in doubles' play from the Bobcats. Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated Daria Tuzhikova and Dumitrita Iepuras, 8-1, in No. 1, Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) defeated Elena Vidrascu and Lydia Colvin, 8-5, in No. 2, and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) topped Jen Bush and Alyssa McAndrew, 8-2, in No. 3.
The Bobcats followed with a strong showing in singles competition. Cantor knocked off Iepuras, 7-5, 6-2, in No. 1, Raynor defeated Vidrascu, 6-3, 7-6 (4), in No. 2, Viebrock downed Colvin, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 3, and Cristescu topped McAndrew, 6-2, 7-5, in No. 6.
Bucknell, now 2-7 on the season, will remain in Orlando, Fla. for one more match with Rhode Island on March 16. With the loss, the Bison have been on the wrong end of the score sheet in three straight matches.
