HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team opened its 2012 Spring Break trip on Monday morning in Winter Park, Fla. Despite taking the doubles' segment of the match, the Bobcats couldn't hang on and dropped a 5-2 decision to Coastal Carolina. With the loss, QU descended to 2-4 on the season.

The duos of Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.),  and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.), got the Bobcats off on the right foot with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 match-ups in doubles' play. Cantor and Viebrock outlasted Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock, 8-5, in No. 1, while Raynor and Dassa doubled up Katie Fosnacht and Mikaela Kristofersson, 8-4, in No. 2.

However, in a swift turn of events, the Chants responded nicely in the singles' portion of the showdown. Coastal Carolina, now 8-1 on the season, won five of six matches on the morning. Raynor chalked up the lone point for the Bobcats in singles' play, defeating Diana Mortlock, 1-6, 6-4 (10) in a tie-breaker for the Q's second point.

Coastal Carolina continues their two-match stint in Florida against Rhode Island tomorrow morning.

Quinnipiac also returns to the clay tomorrow morning, as the Bobcats are set for Navy in Kissimmee, Fla. QU and the Midshipmen square of at Poinciana High School for an 8 a.m. start time. For all information regarding the women's tennis program, please visit www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com.
