WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team earned its second consecutive victory on Friday evening, as the Bobcats outlasted Marist, 4-3, in a non-conference showdown at a neutral site. With the win, QU climbed back to the .500 mark on the season, improving to 2-2 on the young season. Marist falls to 1-1 following a season-opening win at St. Peter's.
Quinnipiac began the match by taking the doubles' segment, where the Bobcats captured two of three matches for the point. Rachel Cantor (Shorthills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated their opponents in the No. 1 slot, 8-5, while Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) took the deciding match, 8-6.
In the singles' portion of the contest, QU split 3-3 with the Red Foxes to earn the necessary three points for the triumph. Cantor, Viebrock and Cristescu each posted individual wins, leading the Bobcats to their first non-conference win of the season.
The Bobcats return to the clay tomorrow morning with a true road contest against Army. First serve is set for 10 a.m. in West Point, N.Y. For all the latest news, scores and highlights pertaining to the women's tennis program, please visit www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com.
