Women's Tennis Wraps Up Quinnipiac Invitational
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac junior Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) won the Flight "B" Singles final and advanced to the Flight "A" Doubles final, with teammate Jul iet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Ok.) on the final day of the 15th Annual Quinnipiac Invitational on the Mt. Carmel campus of Quinnipiac University.
Viebrock opened the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Seton Hall's Elizabeth Verow to advance to the finals in the "B" singles. Her Quinnipiac teammate, Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) also defeated UConn's Maxene Weinberg, 6-2, 6-3. Viebrock was victorious in the all-Quinnipiac final, defeating Raynor, 6-2, 6-2.
Raynor and Viebrock were pitted against each other again when Viebrock and Labarthe defeated Seton Hall's tandem of Verow and Madison Shoemaker, 8-2, to advance to the "A" Doubles final, while Raynor and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) defeated Seton Hall's Pui Wing Sher and Rocio Portela, 8-0. The final between the two Bobcat pairings was suspended and will be played later in the week.
Dassa also played in the finals of the "C" Singles, ultimately losing to Seton Hall's Karina Cordero. Dassa opened the day with a win against UConn' s Lauren Wilmarth. Wilmarth took the first set, 4-6, before Dassa rallied to take the next set, 6-3, and the tiebreaker, 10-7. Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.), also playing in the semifinals of the "C" Flight, lost to Cordero, 6-3, 6-3. Launie and Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) lost in the "B" Doubles final to Seton Hall's Cordero and Courtney Kilarski, 8-5.
The Bobcats will travel to West Point, N.Y. to compete in the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships on the campus of the United State Military Academy (Army).
