Women's Tennis Sweeps Fairfield, 7-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.), Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) each earned double victories as the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team swept Fairfield, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon on the Walsh Athletic Center Courts. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-7, while the Stags fall to 6-7.

Labarthe and Viebrock paired at No. 1 doubles to defeat Sharissa Ryan and Caroline Emhardt, 8-6. Labarthe then beat Emhardt, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while Viebrock completed her double win with a 6-0, 6-4, win against Alyssa Ruiz.

Cantor combined with Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) on an 8-5 victory against Ruiz and Victoria Pirrello at No. 2 doubles. She then edged Ryan, 3-6, 6-1, 11-9, at No. 1 doubles.

Also earning a singles victory was Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany), who beat Pirrello, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Facing a rash of injuries, the Stags forfeited at the No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles flights, accounting for the last two points for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they face Northeast Conference rival Fairleigh Dickinson. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
