Women's Tennis Selected Third In NEC Preseason Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team has been selected to finish third in the Northeast Conference, the league office announced Friday. The NEC coaches picked two-time defending champion Long Island as the favorite to win the league title, while last year's runner-up, Fairleigh Dickinson, was selected second. LIU got four first-place votes, while FDU and Quinnipiac got three first-place votes apiece.

Sacred Heart, Mount St. Mary's, Monmouth, Robert Morris, Saint Francis (Pa.), St. Francis (N.Y.) and Wagner round out the NEC Preseason Poll.

After the Bobcats won five straight NEC titles from 2004-2008, the Blackbirds have won the last two titles. Quinnipiac returns 2010 All-NEC First Team selections Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.). Along with former Bobcat Natalie Duckor, Cantor and Markison comprise the last three NEC Rookies of the Year. Highly-touted freshman Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) will try to keep the Quinnipiac tradition alive this season.

The Bobcats continue spring semester action Feb. 19 against Fordham. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Hamden.
