Juliet Labarthe Earns NEC Player of the Week, Third Straight Rookie of the Week Honor

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University freshman Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) has been named the Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, the league office today announced. Labarthe won the three matches to advance to the West Point Eastern Tennis Invitational C Singles Championship Match, before falling in the finals. The player of the week honor is the first of Labarthe's young career, while she's won rookie of the week for the third time in as many weeks to begin her career.

Labarthe ran her season-opening win streak to seven matches before falling in the final round of her bracket. She advanced to the C Flight title tilt by posting three consecutive wins, all in straight sets. First, she knocked off Kate Donnelly of NEC rival Sacred Heart, 6-2, 6-3. In the quarterfinal round, Labarthe made quick work of Marist's Maria Eduarda Yurgel, 6-2, 6-1. The first-year Bobcat then earned a ticket to the final by picking up another 6-2, 6-1 win over Pittsburgh's Jocelyn Lu.

With the 3-1 weekend, Labarthe has now won 13 of the first 15 matches in her collegiate career.

Following a 24-day hiatus, the Bobcats return to action Oct. 20, when they travel to intrastate rival UConn. Matches are set to begin at 2 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
