Markison Earns 100th Win As Women's Tennis Opens QU Invitational
Markison and Cantor defeated Kristen Liu and Sharissa Ryan, 8-3, in the opening round, before pulling out a 9-8 (7-0 in the tiebreaker) victory over UConn's Abby McKeon and Alexa Gregory in the quarterfinals.
Three other Quinnipiac doubles duos won a match on Friday. Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) paired to defeat Fordham's Angelica Dabu and Hanna Fritzinger, 8-3, in the opening round of Flight A, before falling to Fairfield's Carolina Koladzyn and Monica Yajima, 8-6, in the quarterfinals.
Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) defeated Army's Kari Pope and Morgen Kiser, 9-8 (7-3 in the tiebreaker) in the opening round of Flight B, before falling to UConn's Lauren Wilmarth and Lucy Nutting, 8-4, in the quarterfinals.
After falling to Fordham's Bethany Boyle and Monika Chao, 8-0, in the Flight B opening round, Morgan Crystal (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Erin Suvar (North Massapequa, N.Y.) defeated Sacred Heart's Maggie Tooley and Michelle Aptekin, 8-6, in the Flight B Consolation Quarterfinals.
Quinnipiac Invitational action continues Saturday, when singles play commences at 9 a.m.
