HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's tennis players Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) and Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) were named the Northeast Conference's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Tuesday. Markison continued her undefeated singles play in the spring semester, while Cantor picked up a win in both singles and doubles last week. The award is Markison's second consecutive, after earning NEC Player of the Month for February. Meanwhile, Cantor has won a league-best five NEC Rookie of the Week Awards this season.

Markison went 3-1 on the week, including a pair of singles victories out of the No. 3 flight. She began the week with a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Army's Kristin Beehler, accounting for the Bobcats' lone point at West Point. She was then a double winner in the Bobcats' 7-0 victory against Providence. Markison paired with Mary Wilson (Greensburg, Pa.) to defeat Marisela Aviles-Duron and Ayushi Shinha, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, before beating Melanie Albert, 6-1, 6-0, in singles. Markison is now 10-1 in singles play in 2009-10 and 20-7 overall.
