Women's Tennis Wins Top Two Flights At Fairfield Doubles Festival

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Two Bobcats doubles tandems earned flight championships as the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team opened the 2009-10 season Sunday at the Fairfield Doubles Festival. Mary Wilson (Greensburg, Pa.) and Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) earned the Flight A Championship, while Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) and Natalie Duckor (North Tustin, Calif.) took the Flight B Championship. Freshmen Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) also earned their first career wins, going 2-1 on the day.

Wilson and Markison defeated the top doubles teams from Albany and Fairfield before advancing to the championship, where the upperclassmen defeated Cantor and Viebrock. Cantor and Viebrock also defeated the top pairs from Albany and Fairfield while the Bobcats were the only team to send two duos to play in the top flight.

Steinert and Duckor defeated a pair of duos from Fairfield, as well as a tandem from Albany en route to the Flight B Championship.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they play host to the 13th Annual Quinnipiac Invitational. Opening round action is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
