HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach Michael Quitko has announced the signing of two female student-athletes during the early signing period. Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) will join the Bobcats for the 2009-10 academic year. Both Cantor and Viebrock are rated four-star recruits by tennisrecruiting.net.
"I'm extremely happy that Sarah and Rachel will be joining us next year," said Quitko. "I expect both Sarah and Rachel to make substantial contributions throughout their four years. Their combined strength and past performances make me sure that they will fulfill their promise."
Cantor has been ranked as highly as No. 140 nationally by the Tennis Recruiting Network, as well as No. 12 in the Middle Atlantic Region and No. 2 in New Jersey. She also ranked No. 6 in the USTA Eastern Section among players 16 or younger. Cantor was the 1st Runner-Up at the 2007 New Jersey State Singles Championships and has posted a 75-8 high school record. She was a quarterfinalist at the 2006 state championships.
A two-year team captain, Cantor has led Millburn High School to a pair of state championships (2006, 2007) and a 1st Runner-Up finish in 2008. Cantor was named Athlete of the Year at the 50th Annual Essex County Award Event in 2008. She's also served as a ball girl at the U.S. Open for the past three championships.
Viebrock, ranked as highly as No. 156 nationally by the Tennis Recruiting Network, also ranks 16th in the Middle Atlantic Region and No. 8 in New York. She earned the No.15 ranking in the USTA Eastern Section Girl's 16's. Viebrock has been a four-year All-League and All-Section pick as the top player at Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, N.Y. She was an Empire State Gold Medalist in 2007 and 2008.
Viebrock earned the USTA Eastern Section Sportsmanship Award in 2007 and the Monsignor Mullroy Award for academic and athletic excellence in 2006. She's also a National Honor Society member.
