LEWISBURG, Pa. Quinnipiac women's tennis freshman Natalie Duckor (North Tustin, Calif.) and junior Shawna Sarson (Albany, N.Y.) each earned championships at the Bucknell Invitational this weekend. Sarson went undefeated against players from Bucknell, Colgate and UConn. Duckor, who posted a 2-1 record against players from the same teams, took the title by virtue of a victory against Bucknell's Lauren Lucido, who also won twice.
Duckor began the weekend with a three-set victory against UConn's Emily Herb. She then made quick work of Lucido, 6-2, 6-0. Duckor lost her final singles match of the weekend, a 6-1, 6-2, loss to Colgate's Samantha Inacker. Duckor also paired with sophomore Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) to defeat Colgate's Elise DeRose and Alexandra Erickson, 6-2, in doubles play.
Sarson started her weekend success with a three-set victory against UConn's Emily Searle, before beating Bucknell's Tiffany Card, 6-2, 6-2, and Colgate's Jen Marquit, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the championship. Sarson also paired with Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) to earn a doubles victory against Colgate's Erin Fenn and Samantha Inacker, 6-2.
For the weekend, Markison and freshman Carly Loewenstein (Armonk, N.Y.) won twice, while sophomore Bethany Huard (Londonderry, N.H.) and seniors Nicole Adams (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Kasey Rosenberger (Pittsford, N.Y.) won one match apiece.
The Bobcats return to action Oct. 24, when they take part in the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia.
