HAMDEN, Conn. Junior Mary Wilson (Greensburg, Pa.) advanced to the Quinnipiac Invitational Flight "A" finals and freshman Natalie Duckor (North Tustin, Calif.) lost a three-set decision in her semifinal match as the Quinnipiac women's tennis team wrapped up a successful season-opening tournament.
Wilson's come-from-behind victory (5-7, 6-1, 11-9) against Rhode Island's Pam Emery propelled her to a finals meeting with Maryland-Baltimore County's Ana Mungo. But Mungo was too much, taking the finals pairing in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Duckor took the first set of her semifinal match with eventual Flight "B" champion Tristany Leikem of Rhode Island, 6-2, but Leikem outdueled the freshman, 6-3, 10-7, in the final two sets.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team returns to action next weekend, when they take part in the Eastern Collegiates at Army. Play begins Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
