LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. – Junior midfielder Jess Lavoie (Berlin,Conn) was named to the All-MAAC Second Team while freshmen Jessica Fontaine (Enfield,Conn.) and Joanna Proctor (Frimley,England) were named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team as announced last night at the annual awards banquet at the 2013 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship. The event was held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The MAAC's individual awards, and All-MAAC first team, second team and All-Rookie teams were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. Quinnipiac also had nine players named to the All-MAAC Academic Team.
Lavoie appeared in all 16 games for the Bobcats this season while starting in 14 games. Lavoie scored her first career goal on Oct. 19 at Canisius and also picked up an assist in a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's on Sept. 21. Lavoie has appeared in all but one game in her three year career. In her career Lavoie has appeared in 48 games and has made 45 starts.
Fontaine had a solid season for the Bobcats in her first campaign after coming in with high expectations. Fontaine came to Quinnipiac a CJSA Female & NSCAA Connecticut High School Player of the Year, a two time Connecticut State Championship Most Valuable Player, 2011 & 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year Candidate, 2012 Hartford Courant & CGSCA Player of the Year, and a two-time NCSAA All-American & All-New England and three-time All-State & All-Hartford Courant. Fontaine appeared in all 16 games this season and made 13 starts. In her first campaign she was the team leader in goals (3), points (9), shots (25) and shots on goal (15). On September 23 she was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Proctor recently finished an impressive first campaign for Quinnipiac this season. Proctor was a part of a Bobcats backline that was responsible for six shutouts this season. Proctor brings an impressive resume including playing for the Chelsea Ladies U17 team a team that won the FA Girls Youth Cup. Proctor played in all 16 games this season for Quinnipiac while making 14 starts.
As for the All-Academic Team Quinnipiac named nine players to the team this season. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Players named to the team included sophomore Amanda Barroca (Bellmore, NY), senior Mary Corrado (Colchester,Conn.), junior Angela Ellison (Peabody, Mass.), sophomore Nicole Eriksen (Stamford,Conn.), sophomore Natalia Grodzki (Barlett,Ill), sophomore Jessica Jankowski (Berkley Heights,NJ), senior Beck Kiting (Canberra, Australia), sophomore Shannon Larkin ( Burlington,Conn.), and senior Aine McKeever (Derry City, Northern Ireland)
