EDISON, N.J. – After two stellar performances last week, sophomore Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett, Ill.) has been named the MAAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 by the league's office. Grodzki was instrumental in net for the Bobcats, which included a week that saw the Bobcats go 1-0-1 to put them on top of the MAAC table.
Natalia Grodzki posted 11 saves in the 1-0-1 week for the Bobcats. In the first game of the week against Siena, she made a season-high seven saves in a 1-1 tie. Grodzki was stellar all match making a save on a penalty kick from the defending MAAC offensive player of the week Brittany Pfaff which would have been the difference in the game. The only goal that Grodzki allowed in the game came off a second penalty kick from Siena, but Quinnipiac was able to tie the score and settle for a draw through two overtimes.
Grodzki followed that performance with four saves and her second clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win over Rider. Grodzki made all four saves in the second half and was supported by two goals in the last 17 minutes of the game by the Bobcats.
No stranger to a clean sheet, Grodzki has achieved two and a half clean sheets on the season and four and a half for her career. She had a shutout on Sept. 8 against Holy Cross, 76 minutes of a shutout against Saint Peter's on Sept.21, and another shutout on Sept. 28 against Rider.
The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 when they travel to in-state rival Fairfield. Quinnipiac will take on Fairfield at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
