HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett, Ill.) recorded her third career shutout on Sunday afternoon as the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team battled Holy Cross to a 0-0 draw through double overtime at the QU Soccer Field on Mount Carmel Campus. Each team improved to 0-3-1 on the young season.
"I'm happy that we broke the streak,we had a clean sheet, considering that we played Friday and they didn't, we got some new players into the lineup and I thought that they did well. It was probably a fair result. We had the ball in the final third, but we did not create enough clear cut chances so you can't say that you deserved to win the game. I think in time the goals will come," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Dave Clarke.
Christina Cesarini (Garden City, N.Y.) had three shots, Jessica Fontaine(Enfield,Conn.)had two shots and Angela Ellison (Peabody,Mass.) had two shots for the Bobcats but none were able to get past Holy Cross goalie Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.). Claire Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J) had three shots for the Crusaders including one off the crossbar but none were able to go past Grodzki.
With the tie the Bobcats move 7-4-1 all time against the Crusaders with Quinnipiac moving to 5-1-1 at home against Holy Cross. Grodzki also extends her scoreless streak to 187:46.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 13, when it wraps up non-conference action against the Vermont Catamounts. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Virtue Field in Burlington, Vt.
