HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore defender Nicole Eriksen (Stamford, Conn.) was named to the 2013 College Sports Madness MAAC Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference First Team, announced on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 by members of the association. The list of athletes includes the top players in women's soccer for the upcoming campaign.
"Nicole had a very good first half of the season, and was one of our best players last season, even on track to be the player of the year in the conference," said head coach Dave Clarke. "Now that she has a year under her belt - full-time training, full-time fitness - she'll be able build off of last year and be a key player for us this year."
Eriksen, voted as the Bobcats' newcomer of the year in 2012, made 16 starts for Quinnipiac last season. She helped anchor a Bobcats' back line that would go on to have eight shutouts on the season. The 2012 Bobcats team finished tied with Western Illinois for 42nd in the nation with a .471 shutout percentage and finished 34th in the nation in goals against average with a .737 GAA. With Eriksen and all but one defender/midfielder back for another season expect the Bobcats to bring their impressive defensive ability into their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
The Bobcats open the 2013 season against Big East power Georgetown on Sunday, August 25, 2012. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at North Kehoe Field on the campus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
