Women’s Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – Eight home matches at the QU Soccer Field and a trip to BIG EAST power Georgetown highlight Quinnipiac's 15-match women's soccer schedule, which was announced this week by 15th year head coach Dave Clarke.

The Bobcats embark on a new era in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with 10 league games against unfamiliar teams. However, before conference play begins in late September its Clarke's non-conference slate that presents a tantalizing challenge.

"The 2013 fall schedule provides the team with some very tough non-conference opposition especially with an away match at Georgetown in our first game," said Clarke. "I hope the level of competition will prepare us for our debut season in the MAAC."

Quinnipiac's season-opener is on Sunday, Aug. 25 at North Kehoe Field in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. The Hoyas  enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2012, setting a school record with 16 wins. The Blue & Gray finished with a 16-4-3 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Along the way, the team posted an 8-1-1 record in the BIG EAST Conference and won the BIG EAST National Division title.

The following week, Quinnipiac returns home for the first of three straight games on Mount Carmel Campus. The home-opener boasts another daunting mission for the Bobcats as they welcome Atlantic 10 foe St. Joseph's University (9/1) to Hamden. The Hawks captured sixth place in the A-10 a year ago before falling short in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.

Quinnipiac wraps up the home stand the following weekend against Brown University (9/6) and Holy Cross (9/8), and concludes non-conference play on the road at Vermont (9/15). Quinnipiac  defeated the Crusaders and the Catamounts during its three-game winning streak to start the season in 2012. After the clash in Burlington, Vt., the Bobcats will have one week to prepare for the all-important MAAC schedule.

"I am looking forward to playing in the MAAC," said Clarke. "The move to a new conference will allow us to establish new rivalries (Fairfield) and build on existing ones (Siena) while maintaining our NEC rivalry with Monmouth."

Three of Quinnipiac's first five conference games will be played away from home. The Bobcats travel to Saint Peter's for the league opener on Saturday, September 21, but return home for Siena (9/25) and Rider (9/28) that week. Quinnipiac then opens the month of October at Fairfield (10/2) and Iona (10/5).

The back end of Quinnipiac's conference slate could prove advantageous for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac hosts Niagara on Sunday, October 12; then travels to Marist (10/16) and Canisius (10/19); and wraps up regular season play at home against Manhattan (10/23) and Monmouth (10/26). Quinnipiac will honor its senior class members on Senior Day prior to kick off with the Hawks.

The MAAC Championship venue will be the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. Each team qualifies for the single-elimination tournament, with the first round set for Thursday, October 31. The quarterfinals will take place on Friday, November 1; the semifinals on Sunday, November 2; and the championship game on Monday, November 3. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

"We have already qualified for the MAAC tournament at Walt Disney World in November, so our only goal for the season will be to go to Florida and win the championship," said Clarke.
