Women’s Soccer Adds Three Players to 2013 Roster

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University women's soccer head coach Dave Clarke has announced that Jessica Fontaine (Enfield, Conn.), Kelly Caruso (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Tara Surick (Freehold, N.J.) will join the Bobcats' roster for the upcoming season. Quinnipiac will embark on a challenging MAAC schedule for the first time this fall.

Jessica Fontaine – Forward – Enfield, Conn. – Northwest Catholic High School

Fontaine comes to Quinnipiac from Northwest Catholic High School where she enjoyed a terrific soccer career with the Indians. Over her last two seasons at NWC, Fontaine helped the squad to a record of 38-0-2 and a No. 1 ranking in the state of Connecticut. The Indians also claimed three state titles (2009, 2011 and 2012) while also winning three CCC West Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

"Jess was one of the most sought after high school seniors in Connecticut this year and I am delighted that she chose to attend Quinnipiac," said Clarke. "She will be a threat up front or from midfield and I expect her to make an immediate impact on the program. She is a hard working player with an eye for goal, so I'm looking forward to her linking up with our returning players."

About Fontaine: 
Why did you decide to attend Quinnipiac as a school?
I chose Quinnipiac because it offered me the opportunity to enroll into the Physical Therapy Program as a freshman. I also loved that the school provided me with the opportunity to play Division I soccer, which has always been one of my dreams.  

Why did you decide to commit to Quinnipiac Soccer?
I decided to commit to Quinnipiac because it gives me the opportunity to play soccer at the NCAA's highest level. 

What are you looking to study at Quinnipiac (undergrad and grad)?
I am looking to study health science as an undergraduate and physical therapy as a graduate.  

What are your academic goals?
At Quinnipiac, I am hoping to become a physical therapist where I can continue my love for soccer by helping others rehab from their injuries.  

What are your soccer goals?
My goal for soccer at Quinnipiac is to further develop my skills while helping the team strive towards its goal of a conference championship. I also am looking to make an immediate impact on the team as a freshman. 

What position do you hope to play at Quinnipiac?
I hope to play center midfield or forward. I love the feeling of scoring or helping another teammate score. 

Who is your favorite player?
Alex Morgan is my favorite player.

Who is your favorite team?
My favorite team is Barcelona. 

What is your favorite soccer moment?
My favorite soccer moments were winning three high school state championships in four years and being named a two-time NSCAA All- American.

Kelly Caruso – Midfield – Rocky Hill, Conn. – Kingswood-Oxford High School

Caruso will begin her collegiate career at Quinnipiac after a successful stint at Kingswood-Oxford High School. Coming from a very athletic family, Caruso demonstrated her versatility by playing multiple sports for the Crimson and Black. Along with soccer, she was also a member of the school's basketball team as well. On the pitch, Caruso led the Wyverns to their most successful campaign was in 2010 when the team captured the NEPSAC Class B Championship.

"Kelly is a very hard working and versatile player who just does the job that is asked of her on the field," said Clarke. "I expect her to play in the center of midfield or defense where she will add strength and commitment to the team. She can deliver a ball with pace, so she will be a threat from set plays, an area that we have been lacking in recent years."

About Caruso: 
Why did you decide to attend Quinnipiac as a school?
I chose to attend Quinnipiac because of its academic prowess and the physician's assistant program. The campus is beautiful and it is the perfect size. 

Why did you decide to commit to Quinnipiac Soccer?
I chose to commit to Quinnipiac soccer because they have a great program. The level of soccer and academics combined are perfect for me. 

What are you looking to study at Quinnipiac (undergrad and grad)?
I plan to enroll in the physician's assistant program. 

What are your academic goals?
I want to do well in a challenging PA program and enjoy what I'm learning. 

What are your soccer goals?
I hope to play a lot and contribute as a freshman. I want to be a solid player that can be counted on. 

What position do you hope to play at Quinnipiac?
I hope to play central midfield or center defense. 

Who is your favorite player?
My favorite player is Megan Rapinoe. 

Who is your favorite team?
My favorite team is Real Madrid. 

What is your favorite soccer moment?
My favorite soccer moment is winning the Class B WWNEPSSA Championship as a sophomore for the first time in my school's history.

Tara Surick – Midfield – Freehold, N.J. – Freehold Township High School

A four-sport athlete at Freehold Township High School, Surick will attend Quinnipiac this fall as a member of the women's soccer team. Surick played soccer, basketball, lacrosse and track at FTHS but chose to pursue a career on the pitch. A hard working midfielder, Surick scored the game-winning goal in the conference semifinals to help the Colonials to the Shore Conference Championship game. Her team went on to win the SCC Title and a Division Championship last season.

"Tara is a hardworking, committed, physical and fast player who will play midfield or up front," said Clarke. "Her athleticism and determination will be an asset to the team and I expect her to contribute in many roles this fall."

Why did you decide to attend Quinnipiac as a school?
I decided to attend Quinnipiac because it was everything I could ever want in a school. Quinnipiac has a beautiful campus, a strong educational reputation, and I know it will help me pursue a career when I graduate and continue my future. 

Why did you decide to commit to Quinnipiac Soccer?
I decided to commit to Quinnipiac soccer because I loved the team, the school, and the coach. The girls on the team welcomed me and made my decision very easy when having to pick where I wanted to go to school. Also, I really like Coach Clarke's style of play and he's the perfect kind of coach to coach me. 

What are you looking to study at Quinnipiac (undergrad and grad)?
I'm looking to study some form of special education because I want to work with kids who need assistance and the extra help. 

What are your academic goals?
My academic goals are to get good grades and graduate in four years. Another goal of mine is to get onto the dean's list. 

What are your soccer goals?
My soccer goals are to come into the season in the best possible shape, stay in great shape throughout the season, and improve myself every single day. I want to have a strong work ethic on and off the field and hopefully earn a starting spot this year. 

What position do you hope to play at Quinnipiac?
I've always been a player who can play any position and I feel this will help me out a lot when I play at Quinnipiac. I hope to play wherever I am needed and wherever I will help the team to succeed. Whether it is defense, midfield, or forward; wherever my team needs me is where I'll play. 

Who is your favorite player?
My favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo because he has a fantastic work ethic and is a great role model on and off the field. He is also a great player. 

Who is your favorite team?
My favorite soccer team is the New York Red Bull because I've been watching them for a while and they are a good team and fun to watch. 

What is your favorite soccer moment?
My favorite soccer moment was last season when my team played our rival high school. I scored the game-winning goal in double overtime in the last 10 seconds to bring us to the championship game which we eventually won. It was my favorite moment because before I could even turn around to celebrate my team tackled me and everyone was so happy and it was such a good feeling.
