Former Women’s Soccer Standout Sara Lawlor Named Bus Éireann National Women’s League Player of the Year

DUBLIN, Ireland – Former Quinnipiac women's soccer standout and Peamount United striker Sara Lawlor began a professional stint in Ireland after her time at Quinnipiac and has blossomed into one of the league's finest attackers. Lawlor was named the 2013 Bus Éireann National Women's League Player of the Year, which was announced on May 14 by league officials.

Lawlor joined Quinnipiac for one season back in 2007 where she led the Bobcats to the Northeast Conference Championship game. She scored seven goals and dished out seven assists through the campaign and found her name on several pieces of hardware at the end of the season. Her efforts were rewarded by All-NEC and All-Region laurels.

In addition to Player of the Year, Lawlor was also tabbed as the league's Top Goal Scorer as well. Lawlor netted 28 goals throughout the season, which helped Peamount United to a second straight National Women's League Cup on May 19, 2013. Lawlor netted two goals and assisted on another in a 6-3 win over Castlebar Celtic at Milebush Park in Castlebar, Ireland. Peamount was the second seed in the tournament after posting a 14-2-2 record.


The Bus Éireann Women's National League is the national women's soccer league in the Republic of Ireland. It was founded in August of 2011 and had its first season in November of 2011. Peamount United is based in Greenogue, Newcastle.
