"Donating Their No. 26 Jerseys to Aid Newtown" by John Pettit (April 5, 2013)

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University soccer programs, led by women's soccer head coach Dave Clarke and men's soccer head coach Eric Da Costa, were featured in The New York Times on Friday, April 5, 2013. The story, written by John Pettit, highlights Quinnipiac's unbelievable progress in the relief efforts of Sandy Hook – in particular the #26 Uniforms Auction and Soccer Night in Newtown.

Quinnipiac's #26 Uniforms Auction is closing in on a total of $14,000. The proceeds of the auction will be used to establish a scholarship fund in memory of the 20 students and six teachers who died at Sandy Hook and will be dedicated in honor of Rachel. Quinnipiac hopes to continue this tradition by auctioning #26 jerseys every Dec. 14. The auction concludes April 14.

Quinnipiac University soccer also partnered with Major League Soccer (MLS) and CFC Azul to host a special "Soccer Night in Newtown" on Monday, January 7, 2013. The event was held from 4-8 p.m. at the Newtown Youth Academy Sports & Fitness Center in Newtown. More than 30 members of the men's and women's soccer programs participated in the event that attracted nearly 1,500 people – including Mia Hamm, Landon Donovan and Alexi Lalas.
