HAMDEN, Conn. –Quinnipiac women's soccer seniors Jillian Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) and Shauna Edwards (Southington, Conn.) were selected to play in the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl announced by coaches all around the region. The game is set to take place on Sunday, December 2 at Merrimack College in Boston, Mass. (11 a.m.).
Kelley and Edwards concluded their collegiate careers with a highlighted senior season. The two seniors tremendously helped the Bobcats to a successful 9-6-2 run.
Senior goalkeeper Kelley was recognized by the Northeast Conference three times as Defender of the Week during her final campaign. The go-to goalie was also on the NCAA radar rounding off the number 10 position in the nation with a goal against average of 0.51 and placed 12th nationally in saves average at .867 during the week of Sept. 24.
The veteran goalkeeper ends her time between the posts for the Bobcats with 26 career wins and 18 shutouts in Bobcat uniform. Kelley also tied for fourth in the NEC for shutout in her final campaign for the Bobcats.
Edwards was tied for fifth in the conference in assists with four on the season posting .24 assists per game placing her at number eight in the Northeast Conference. The senior midfielder earned two goals on the Bobcats impressive season.
The veteran's first goal of the season came against Bryant to register a goal off of a penalty kick in the 20th minute of play to counter the Bulldogs lead, 1-1. Against Robert Morris, Edwards connected off of a long cross from freshman Amanda Barroca (Bellmont, N.Y.) to send the ball past RMU's goalkeeper to put the Bobcats in the driver's seat for the rest of the game.
Edwards finishes her career in Bobcat uniform with eight goals, 10 assists and 26 points for Quinnipiac.
