Women's Soccer Falls To NEC Foe Bryant, 2-1

Smithfield, R.I. – Senior Shauna Edwards (Southington, Conn.) put the Bobcats on the board with the team's only goal but Quinnipiac suffered a 2-1 setback to Northeast conference foe Bryant, Sunday, Oct. 7 at Sutton Field in Smithfield, R.I.  With the loss the Bobcats overall record drops to 7-4-2, and 3-2-1 in the Northeast conference play. The Bulldogs improves to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the NEC.

Bryant was able to take the lead in the opening minutes on a header by Shana Follette past Quinnipiac's veteran keeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.). The goal was Follette's fifth of the year.

Edwards registered a goal off of a penalty kick in the 20th minute of play to counter the Bulldogs lead, 1-1. The goal is Edwards' first of the 2012 season and seventh of her career in a Quinnipiac uniform. With less than a minute to play in the first half, the Bulldogs' Julie Vajda scored from the left side of the goal to put the home team up, 2-1, heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Bobcats were unable to come back from their one goal deficit, dropping the Bobcats' all-time record against Bryant to a 7-5-2. Kelley made five saves in the game for Quinnipiac, while Bryant's Kelsi Jacob made none. Kelley is now 5-4 on the season.  The Bulldogs outshot the Bobcats 12-6 and controlled the corners 3-2.

The Bobcats will host Northeast Conference opponent, Mount St. Mary's on senior day, Sunday, Oct. 14 on the QU Soccer Field in Hamden, Conn. at 1pm.  The Mountaineers are tied for fifth in the NEC with a 7-5-1 mark overall and 2-1-1 in the NEC. St. Mary's is coming off a tough 0-0 draw to Sacred Heart on Sunday.
