HAMDEN, Conn. –Senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team was named the Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week as well as the College Sports Madness Player of the Week, announced on Monday, September 24, 2012 by the league office. Kelley provided two shutouts this weekend as the Bobcats opened conference play with two victories.
"It is another nice honor for Jill and very deserving for the hard work she has put into her game during the spring and summer," said head coach Dave Clarke. "The nature of these awards is that only one player gets recognized, but we have defended as a team and all the outfield players have helped keep the latest clean sheets."
The veteran goalkeeper recorded three saves in the 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Sept. 21 and collected three more saves in the 1-0 shutout against intrastate rival Central Connecticut. For Kelley's career in goal she has tallied 16 shutouts between the posts. With this weekend's triumphs, Kelley picked up her 24th career win, and currently leads the NEC in goals against average (.51), save percentage (.867), and shutouts (5).
The Bobcats continue competition within the Northeast Conference next weekend. Quinnipiac travels to Brooklyn, N.Y. for a clash with the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds on Friday, September 28 at 6 p.m., followed by a home tilt against Monmouth University on Sunday, September 30 at 1 p.m.
