Women's Soccer Ranked In NSCAA Division I Northeast Regional Poll
Hamden, Conn. – Off to its best start in program history, the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team was recently ranked ninth in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Northeast Regional Poll, announced on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. The Bobcats are undefeated through their first five games, racing out of the gates to a 4-0-1 record.
"It is nice to be back in a regional ranking again; however, it is more important to be ranked after the season than after five games," said Head Coach Dave Clarke. "A lot of effort has gone into getting us to this point, but a lot more work needs to be done to get us to where we want to be in November."
Quinnipiac joins a list of storied programs, a group that includes BIG EAST power Rutgers (7-1) at #1 in the census. The Scarlet Knights are followed by fellow conference foes Georgetown (6-1-1), Louisville (5-1), UConn (4-2-1) and Marquette (3-2) to round-out the top five. Notre Dame (3-3-1) sits at #6, while Stony Brook (4-2-1), Marist (4-2-1), Quinnipiac (4-0-1) and Seton Hall (5-3)/Providence (5-2-1) conclude the poll.
Most recently, Quinnipiac handed the Hartford Hawks a loss at the QU Soccer Field. Freshman forward Shannon Larkin (Burlington, Conn.) lifted the Bobcats to the 1-0 triumph with her first collegiate goal, and the next day was named NEC Rookie of the Week. Senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) posted her third shutout of the season and collected her 22nd career win.
The Bobcats will return to action Wednesday, September 12 with another home tilt against Harvard. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the QU Soccer Field.
