Shannon Larkin Named NEC Co-Rookie Of The Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University freshman women's soccer player Shannon Larkin (Burlington, Conn.) was named Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring her first collegiate goal in Quinnipiac's 1-0 victory against intrastate rival Hartford this past weekend. The NEC honor is the forward's first of her career.

"Shannon Larkin has been a good addition to the Quinnipiac program," said head coach Dave Clarke, "We are both Spurs so she will appreciate me comparing her to Scott Parker in midfield with her work rate and commitment to the cause. Unlike Parker, Shannon managed to get on the end of a cross and put her chance away and I hope it will be the first of many in her Quinnipiac career."

Just 10 minutes into the game, Larkin was able to convert on a cross from fellow classmate Amanda Barroca (Bellmore, N.Y.), who sent the ball through the Hawks' defense finding Larkin to give the Bobcats the 1-0 lead in the first half. Larkin's goal keeps Quinnipiac undefeated at 4-0-1 on the season.

Quinnipiac hosts non-conference Harvard midweek on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. at QU Soccer Field in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats then hit the road Sunday, Sept. 16 to take on the Siena Saints at 1 p.m. at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y.
