Kelley and Woodfine Recognized by NEC
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's soccer seniors Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) and Kemesha Woodfine (Stanford, Conn.) were picked as the Northeast Conference Defensive Player and Co- Player of the Week Player of the Week, respectively. The announcement was made on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 by the league office.
Kelley, now earning Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, stopped two of the three shots on goal by Vermont in the Bobcats' 2-1 victory against the Catamounts. She then proceeded to record her second shutout in three games when she turned away all four shots on goal by Holy Cross in a 1-0 victory. Kelley remained perfect for the weekend with a 2-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .857 save percentage after stopping 6-of-7 shots on goal. For the year, she has a 0.33 goals against average and .933 save percentage. Kelley registered her 12th and 13th career shutouts between the posts.
Woodfine led the team with two game-winning goals as the Bobcats picked up a pair of non-conference wins this weekend. The Stanford native collected the game-winning goal on Friday, Aug. 31 in the Bobcats' 2-1 win against Vermont at home. The forward added a second goal of the weekend in the 27th minute of play for the Bobcats' 1-0 win against Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Woodfine now has four career goals going into her last season.
The Bobcats will return to action on Friday, September 7, when they take on New Jersey Institute of Technology in a non-conference match-up. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. under the lights at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium in Newark, N.J.
