The Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team is hosting a Kickin’ It For Robby benefit at Chili’s Restaurant in Hamden, Conn. on Thursday, May 3. Ten percent of all proceeds throughout the day will go directly to the Bobcats’ Kickin’ It For Robby cause.

Kyla Miles Named Women's Soccer Player Of The Year At Annual Banquet
Graduate student Kyla Miles (Newtown, Conn.) was named the Quinnipiac University Women’s Soccer Player of the Year at the Quinnipiac men’s and women’s soccer program’s annual banquet on Friday, April 27. Miles also received the Players’ Player of the Year accolade, while freshman Jess Lavoie (Berlin, Conn.) was honored as the Young Player of the Year. Additionally, senior Chelsea Smith (Terryville, Conn.) was selected as the Academic Player of the Year and senior Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) earned Team Player of the Year.

Women's Soccer Hosts Third Annual "Give Cancer The Boot" Fundraiser Event
he Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team, in conjunction with the Quinnipiac Intramurals Department, will host the Third Annual “Give Cancer the Boot” fundraiser event on Saturday, May 5, 2012. The event will feature a co-ed 4x4 soccer tournament at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field at 10 a.m. This year’s tournament will be held in honor of Robby Brisco, a soccer player from Avon, Conn. who is currently fighting a rare form of cancer.

Quinnipiac University Women’s Soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 academic year. Nicole Eriksen (Stamford, Conn.), Shannon Larkin (Burlington, Conn.), Casey Hutchinson (Middlebury, Conn.), Amanda Barroca (North Bellmore, N.Y.), Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett, Ill.), and Jessica Jankowski (Berkeley Heights, N.J.)will join the Bobcats in the fall of 2012.

On Sunday, the men’s and women’s soccer programs are supporting the efforts of Truong Nguyen ‘08, a former men’s soccer player now serving in the Peace Corps in Indonesia. Volunteers will be handing out information and accepting donations to help Truong as he works with his village in East Java, Indonesia to build a multipurpose (soccer and basketball) athletic court. The purpose of an athletic court is to give students a safe place to participate in sports and build confidence and pride within the community.

Last year, Hays also wrote a feature, “From refugee to soccer star,” on Velaj’s journey from her native Kosovo to the United States, as well as her future aspirations in political science following her collegiate career.
