HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women’s soccer team lost to Northeast Conference opponent Saint Francis (Pa.), 3-0, on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-6-1 on the year and 2-2 in NEC play, while the Red Flash remain undefeated in conference action at 3-0-1.
Despite outshooting Saint Francis (Pa.), 16-12, Quinnipiac lost its first NEC match-up played at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field this season.
Thirty-five minutes into the first half, the Red Flash's Aryn Askin scored as she drove a corner kick into the box, which was deflected into the net by a Quinnipiac defender.
Saint Francis (Pa.) increased its advantage, 2-0, when Red Flash freshman Mackenzie Walter scored the team’s second on an assist from Askin. Walter scored the game's second goal off the deflection from a shot by Askin, with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.
Ahead, 2-0, Saint Francis (Pa.) junior Tesa McKibben notched her ninth goal of 2011, less than 10 minutes into the second half, to give the Red Flash a 3-0 lead. Alecia McNiff found McKibben, inside the 18-yard box, who then shot the ball over Quinnipiac senior goalie Jill Kelley’s head and into the middle of the net.
Overall, Kelley took the loss to drop to 3-6-1 on the year. Kelley made three saves in the outing, while Saint Francis (Pa.) goalie Brianna Butcher tabbed six stops in net.
The Bobcats return to action when they host Long Island on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. and Wagner on Sunday, Oct. 16 at Noon. Both games will be played at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field in Hamden, Conn.
