HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) scored her first two goals of the season, including the game-winner, as the Quinnipiac women’s soccer team defeated Robert Morris, 3-2, in a Northeast Conference match on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 3-5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Colonials drop to 7-5-1 on the year and 1-2 in the NEC.

Quinnipiac scored early in the first half when sophomore Aine McKeever (Derry City, Ireland) scored a head goal, her first of the year, off of a cross by junior Crystal Burns (Overland Park, Kan.) in the sixth minute. Robert Morris answered in the 10th minute of play with another header, this time by Ayana Davis on a corner kick from Holly Sieradzki.

The Colonials took a 2-1 lead with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Leah prentice crossed the ball into Jess Sharik who then scored in the top of the net from inside the 18-yard box.

The Bobcats came back in the 52nd minute when Del Mistro scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Shauna Edwards (Southington, Conn.) crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Del Mistro, who scored on her first touch past Robert Morris’ goalie, Jessica Olin.

With the score tied, 2-2, Quinnipiac took back the lead with less than 25 minutes remaining in the game. Senior Chelsea Smith (Terryville, Conn.) drove a cross into the six-yard box to find Del Mistro who headed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

Quinnipiac keeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) made eight saves in her third win of the season, while Olin posted six stops in net for Robert Morris.

Overall, both teams tallied 15 shots in the match-up, while Quinnipiac led the contest in corner kicks, 9-to-5.

The Bobcats return to action when they host NEC opponent Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Noon at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field in Hamden, Conn.
