HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team volunteered with Whitney Manor, a Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, during February and early March. Members of the team did various crafts and activities with the residents.
“I think it's important for every team to get out and show the community that we are more than just college athletes,” said junior Jillian Strassner, who helped organize the community service event. “Through our sport, we develop great interactive skills and the ability to work through adversity and with others. It's nice to let our personalities come out. It's also stress relieving and it feels good to give back!”
The women’s soccer team had every class come up with a different community service project. The first time the Bobcats attended Whitney Manor, they participated in volleyball and dancing with residents. The team also passed out Valentine’s Day Cards. During their second visit, the team helped residents make leprechauns for Saint Patrick’s Day and flowers for the spring season.
