HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men’s and women’s soccer programs earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.

For a team to be considered for the NSCAA Team Academic Award, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0. A total of 794 soccer teams (221 men, 573 women) received the accolade, while only 162 schools had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized.

“Our program is again honored to receive recognition from the NSCAA for our team’s academic success,” said men’s soccer head coach Eric Da Costa. “We have received this award five times in the past seven years and it reflects the commitment of our players to excel both academically and athletically, which is the very essence of college athletics. Our coaching staff and academic support staff work tirelessly to provide the resources and environment necessary for our athletes to flourish. I am tremendously proud of our achievements.”

“It speaks highly of the program that the players continue to maintain high standards in the classroom,” said women’s soccer head coach Dave Clarke. “It is even more impressive when one considers how many Physicians Assistant, Nursing and Physical Therapy majors we have on the team.”
