Miles And Hartman Named To 2010 NEC All-Tournament Team
HAMDEN, Conn. - Two seniors on the Quinnipiac University women's
soccer team were named to the 2010 Northeast Conference
All-Tournament team after their playoff appearance against Saint
Francis (Pa.) on Nov. 5. Senior defenders Kyla Miles (Newtown,
Conn.) and Jen Hartman (Cranston, R.I.) each were selected to the
All-Tournament team, as announced by the conference this
afternoon.
Miles anchored the Bobcats' defense this season and in the playoff
appearance against Saint Francis on Friday. After missing last
season due to injury, Miles proved to be a consistent defender,
starting in all 18 games and compiling two assists for Quinnipiac
this fall. Miles will be returning on the Bobcats' squad next
season.
"Kyla has had an excellent year and played every minute since
recovering from her injury of last year, said Clarke. "She has been
very consistent and especially since she slid into the center of
defense. She played right back in Friday's semifinal and did a very
good job on the NEC Player of the Year. Kyla's honor was well
earned and she did not deserve to be on the losing side."
Hartman started on the back line in the postseason match, leading
the Bobcats to a draw with Saint Francis. The central defender
stepped up and helped hold the Red Flash to two goals on the game.
Hartman started in six of nine appearances for Quinnipiac this
year, after missing the 2009 season due to injury.
"Jen has bided her time this year because of the excellent form of
Meag, Kyla and Becky, the three players with whom she has been
competing for playing time," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Dave
Clarke. "When Amanda Bilas got injured at Harvard, Jen came back
into the starting lineup and had her three best games as a
Quinnipiac player against Sacred Heart, Fairleigh Dickinson and St.
Francis in the playoffs. She had a very composed game in the center
of defense and hardly put a foot wrong."
Quinnipiac concluded the 2010 season at 5-2-3 in conference play
and with a 7-7-4 overall record. The Bobcats played to a 2-2 draw
against Saint Francis in the first round of the NEC Tournament, but
were eliminated by a 3-1 disadvantage in penalty kicks. The Red
Flash went on to defeat Long Island, 1-0, to win the NEC
Championship on Nov. 7.
