Women's Soccer Plays Saint Francis (Pa.) In NEC Semifinals On Friday, Nov. 5

Postseason Begins
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team travels to
Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Nov. 5 to take on Saint Francis
(Pa.) University in the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinals.
The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the University Field
in Teaneck, N.J, while Monmouth and Central Connecticut State will
face off at Noon.

Tournament Time
The NEC Women's Soccer Tournament will take place on Friday, Nov. 5
and Sunday, Nov. 7 hosted by top-seeded Long Island University. The
games will be held at Fairleigh Dickinson at the University Field
in Teaneck, N.J. The tournament kicks off at 12 p.m. with a
semifinal game between first place Long Island and fourth seeded
Central Connecticut State. The game will be followed with another
semifinal match-up between number two Saint Francis and third-place
Quinnipiac at 2:30 p.m. The winners of each game will play in the
championship match on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 12 p.m. The winner of the
NEC Tournament will advance to the NCAA Tournament which begins
with first round play on Nov. 12 and Nov. 14.
NEC Tournament History
Quinnipiac clinched the third seed in last season's playoffs after
posting a 7-2-1 record in conference play. The Bobcats lost to the
number two Hawks of Monmouth University on Nov. 9, 2009 in the
first round of the NEC Tournament hosted by Central Connecticut
State. The Hawks went on to win the Tournament with a 1-0 victory
against regular season champion Central Connecticut State.
Scouting the
Red Flash
Saint Francis finished the regular season with an overall
record of 14-14-1 and at 8-2-0 in conference play. In their most
recent outing, the Red Flash beat Wagner, 3-0, in a home contest on
Oct. 31. Sophomore forward Tesa McKibben leads Saint Francis with
39 points, 15 goals, and nine assists on the season. Ba Maros de
Carvalho leads the Red Flash in assists (11). Senior Goalkeeper
Lauren Fearer has appeared in 14 games for Saint Francis, posting a
.885 save percentage with a .70 goals against average. Fearer has
earned seven shutouts on the season and allowed nine goals, while
Brianna Butcher has played in eight games for the Red Flash and
made 25 saves.

Against Saint Francis
In their last outing,
the Red Flash beat the Bobcats, 3-0, in a conference match-up on
Oct. 15 in Loretto, Pa. McKibben scored two goals in the contest,
while Haleigh Dunyon and Maros de Carvalho each tallied an assist.
The Bobcats scored an own goal in the defeat.
A Winning
Weekend
The Bobcats went 2-0 last weekend at the Quinnipiac Soccer
Field, with a 1-0 win against Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 29 and a
6-0 shutout against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, Oct. 31. In its
game against Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac forward Furtuna
Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the
83rd minute of play. Quinnipiac scored its six goals
from six different players against Fairleigh Dickinson. Shauna

A Shutout
Season
Quinnipiac goalkeeper Jillian
Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) has earned six shutouts on the season.
The junior posts a .806 save percentage with a 1.12 goals against
average on the season. Kelley has allowed 19 goals and made 79
saves this fall.

Winner
Furtuna
Velaj was named adidas/NEC Player of the
Week on Monday, Nov. 1 after tallying two goals and one
assist on the weekend. Velaj also shared the NEC award on Sept. 20,
2010 with Central Connecticut State's Beth Lloyd, after compiling
her fourth career hat-trick against Dartmouth. The junior currently
leads the team with 19 points, seven goals and five assists.
