Quinnipiac Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke Wins 100th Career Game in 2-1 Defeat of Mount St. Mary's
HAMDEN,
Conn. - Quinnipiac Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave
Clarke won his 100th career game as the Bobcats defeated Mount
St. Mary's, 2-1, at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field in Hamden, Conn.
The Bobcats improve to 4-5-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the Northeast
Conference while Mount St. Mary's goes to 3-8-2 overall and 0-4-1
in conference play.
"Our set play
delivery was very good," said Head Coach Dave
Clarke. "The two goals were excellent in terms of one was a
team goal, Furtuna to Kristina to Jill, and then the second (goal),
just that individual talent out of Kristina
Del Mistro was what we needed from her."
The first goal of the game was scored in the 42nd minute
of play by sophomore Jillian
Strassner (Avon, Conn.) for her third goal of the season.
Strassner headed the ball into the back of the net after receiving
a pass from junior Kristina
Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y).
"The fact that we scored right before half time was important,"
said Clarke.
The Bobcats scored their second goal of the game in the
57th minute of play. The goal was scored by Del Mistro
for her first of the season. Junior Furtuna
Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) slid a ball through Mount St. Mary's
defense to find Del Mistro for the shot. Del Mistro blasted a shot
into the upper-right corner of the goal.
Down 2-0 with eight minutes left in regulation time, Sarah Malpezzi
scored Mount St. Mary's only goal of the game, after a series of
deflections and chaos around the Quinnipiac net.
Overall, the Bobcats had several scoring opportunities throughout
the game. Quinnipiac outshot Mount St. Mary's, 16-13 and took 11
corner kicks.
