Scouting the Pioneers
The Pioneers have recorded a 6-6 overall record this
season, with a 2-2 record in the NEC. In their most recent game,
Sacred Heart lost to Central Connecticut, 4-2, on Oct. 9. Sophomore
forward, Samantha Kee, leads the Pioneers offensively as she has
tallied three goals and four assists this season. Junior goalkeeper
Meghan Reichelt has started 11 games in net for Sacred Heart this
year, recording a .830 save percentage.
All-Time Against the Pioneers
The Bobcats hold a 3-5-3 record with the Pioneers over the
past ten seasons, most recently earning a 3-0 victory last season
on Oct. 26 at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. Furtuna Velaj (Stamford,
Conn.), Meagan McLoughlin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Chelsea Smith
(Terryville, Conn.) each scored for Quinnipiac while goaltender
Jillian Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded her fourth shutout of the
year. Amber Sidoti (Farmington, Conn.) and Danielle Nugent each
recorded assists on the day.
Follow the Leader
Sophomore Velaj recorded her sixth goal of the season in
the game against Fairleigh Dickinson on Oct. 9. The forward tallied
the game-winning goal in the 49th minute of play when she sprinted
with the ball up the sideline stopping just outside the 18-yard box
to send a high shot into the opposite corner of the net for the 2-1
Bobcat lead. Velaj leads the Bobcats in all offensive categories
with 15 points, six goals, and three assists.
Corner the Market
Freshman Kemesha Woodfine (Stamford, Conn.) notched her
second goal of the year when she opened up the scoring for
Quinnipiac at Fairleigh Dickinson. Woodfine tied the game in the
24th minute of play on a corner kick opportunity set up by Susan
Donovan (Cork, Ireland), who sent the ball into a scramble in front
of the net. McLoughlin earned the first touch which moved to Amanda
Bilas (Marshfield, Mass.) who headed it to Woodfine at the post.
Woodfine sprawled into a bicycle kick and sent the ball into the
back of the net for the score. Woodfine ties for third on the team
in points with four.
Upperclassmen Assistance
Two upperclassmen dished out their first assist of the
season in the game against Fairleigh Dickinson on Oct. 9. Junior
defender Bilas was credited with the assist on the goal by Woodfine
in the first half of play, while senior defender Olivia Kravitz
(Canton, Conn.) dished the pass to Velaj for the game-winner in the
second.
Taking Care of Biz-ness
Goalkeeper Elizabeth "Biz" Cook (Appleton, Wis.) earned
her second win of the season on Oct. 9, in as many appearances in
net for the Bobcats. The freshman made one save in goal against
Fairleigh Dickinson, compiling a .875 save percentage so far on the
year.
The Nor'easter
Velaj continues her reign atop the NEC offensive
categories after her one-goal performance at Fairleigh Dickinson.
The forward ranks first in points per game (1.88), goals per game
(0.75), and shots per game (5.5), along with ranking third in
points (15), goals (6), shots (44), and assists per game
(0.38).
