"We created a lot of chances tonight but did not take them," said Head Coach Dave Clarke. "We'll take the three points in conference play and the win on the road."
The Knights opened up the scoring in the 16th minute of play. Amy Flanagan set up for a free kick after a Bobcat foul in the offensive zone. Her kick crossed the front of the net where Jennifer Arceneaux connected with a header into the right side for the goal.
Quinnipiac responded in the 24th minute of play off a corner kick opportunity. Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland) set up for the corner which she sent into a scramble in front of the net. Meagan McLoughlin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) earned the first touch which moved to Amanda Bilas (Marshfield, Mass.) who headed it to Woodfine at the post. Woodfine sprawled into a bicycle kick and sent the ball into the back of the net for the 1-1 tie and her second goal of the season. Bilas was credited with the assist, her first of the year.
Velaj notched the game-winner in the 49th minute of play. Olivia Kravitz (Canton, Conn.) dished a quick pass from the defensive zone to Velaj at the sideline. The forward sprinted with the ball up field where she stopped just outside the 18-yard box and sent a high shot into the opposite corner of the net for her sixth goal of the season. Kravitz picked up her first assist of the year on the play.
Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook (Appleton, Wis.) made one save in net for Quinnipiac, while Megan MacKellar stopped three for the Knights.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday afternoon when they travel to Sacred Heart for an NEC match-up. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
