Women's Soccer Takes On Fairleigh Dickinson Friday, Oct. 9

Scouting the Knights
Fairleigh Dickinson has compiled a 2-9 overall record this season, along with a 0-3 NEC record. The Knights most recently lost to Robert Morris, 6-0, on Oct. 4. Sophomore forward Rashidah Sherman leads Fairleigh Dickinson with six points (2 goals, 2 assists). Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Tanzi has played nine games in net for the Knights, recording a .673 save percentage.

All-Time Against the Knights
The Bobcats hold 5-3-1 all-time record against Fairleigh Dickinson, most recently earning a 4-1 win last season on Oct. 24 at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. In that match-up, forward Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) and Meagan McLoughlin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) each scored twice for the Bobcats, while Velaj also picked up an assist. Defender Kyla Miles (Newtown, Conn.) and goalkeeper Jillian Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) were also credited with assists for Quinnipiac. Kelley recorded two saves in net for the win.

Two for Twenty
Freshman Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) scored the lone, game-winning, goal in overtime for the Bobcats' 1-0 victory against Bryant on Oct. 4. Positioned at the top of the 18-yard box, Strassner collected a pass from the left side and sent it to Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) at her right. The forward dashed closer to the net where Del Mistro dished a pass back to her and Strassner connected for a high shot into the left side for the goal and the win. The goal was her second of the season ranking her third on the team in goals (2) and points (4).

She's Cookin' Now
Rookie goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook (Appleton, Wis.) saw her first appearance in net for Quinnipiac on Oct. 4, earning the first shutout for the Bobcats this season. Cook recorded six saves in the game, coming up big in the second overtime period when she shut down the Bulldogs' offensive push just one minute in. Bryant defender Mary Green crossed from the right side to Kaitlyn Fare at the left post. Fare tried to capitalize on the quick cross and tipped the ball towards the left corner where Cook dove down and knocked it out of bounds for the save that kept Quinnipiac alive.

Overtime Performance
The Bobcats have played four games into overtime this season, collecting a 2-1-1 record in those contests. Quinnipiac holds a 9-7 shot advantage over its opponents while tying for saves stopping three shots each in OT.

Mighty at Night
The game against Fairleigh Dickinson will be the second night game played by the Bobcats this season. Quinnipiac first played under the lights on Sept. 10, at Stony Brook, where they defeated the Sea Wolves 2-1 in double overtime.

What a Kick
Sophomore Del Mistro recorded her first assist of the season in the game against Bryant on Oct. 4. The wing positioned herself perfectly at the right edge of the 18-yard box for a give-and-go with Strassner for the game-winning goal. Del Mistro ranks second on the team in points (5) and goals (2). The assist was the second of her career.

NEC Notoriety
Sophomore Velaj continues to rank as one of the top offensive contributors in the NEC. In seven games played, the forward ranks first in points per game (1.86), goals per game (0.71) and shots per game (5.71.). Velaj also ranks second in goals (5), and ranks third in shots (40) and assists per game (0.43).
