Women's Soccer Edged By CCSU, 3-2

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Freshman Kemesha Woodfine (Stamford, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal as the Quinnipiac University women' soccer team lost to Central Connecticut State University, 3-2, Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats' record drops to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast Conference, while the Blue Devils improve to 3-6-1 overall with a 1-0 record in the conference play.

CCSU got on the board first in the 14th minute of play. Beth Lloyd centered a pass to Erin Egan who fired a high shot from 30-yards out that connected with the upper right corner of the net for the goal.

The Bobcats responded in the 33rd minute of play to tie the game at 1-1. After a CCSU foul inside the scorer's box, Velaj set up for a penalty kick that she ripped into the left side for her fifth goal of the year.

Twelve minutes into the second half, the Blue Devils converted on a penalty kick of their own after the Bobcats committed a foul inside the scorer's box. Clio Treager set up for the kick and sent it into the lower left corner for her fourth goal of the season.

CCSU struck again in the 70th minute of play to earn the 3-1 lead. Ciara Crinion found Leah Blayney at the top left of the 18-yard box where she lifted a high shot into the left corner for her fifth goal of the year.

Woodfine connected for her first collegiate goal with four minutes remaining in the game. Senior forward Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland) set up for a corner kick and sent a perfect arc into the box where Woodfine tipped it past the Blue Devils' keeper for the score. The assist was Donovan's first of the season.

Quinnipiac goalkeeper Kendra Margulies (Weston, Mass.) recorded four saves in the game, while her counterpart Caity Casey brought down six.

The Bobcats return to action next Sunday, Oct. 4, when they host Bryant University in their first home game since Sept. 13. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field.
