      <description>The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team recently received a 'Be a Fan' Award at the Seventh Annual Unified Sports Cup Awards Banquet hosted by the Special Olympics organization and Unified Sports. The banquet was held on Monday, May 10 in Plantsville, Conn, and recognized those who volunteer their time to better the community. Quinnipiac head coach Dave Clarke received the award in representation of the women's program and its' contributions over the past decade.</description>

The event was played in sponsorship of a local Connecticut soccer player named Jamie Botteon who was recently diagnosed with cancer.</description>

Senior Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland), who was playing for the alumni, was named the Most Valuable Player at the event as she scored the first two goals for the former players. Sophomore Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored the lone goal for the current team on the day.</description>

Senior defender Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) earned the Player's Player of the Year Award while freshman Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) was named the Young Player of the Year. Also honored was sophomore Chelsea Smith (Terryville, Conn.) who earned the team's Academic Player of the Year award on the evening.</description>

With the win, Monmouth advances to the Northeast Conference Championship game that will be played on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. The Hawks will take on tournament-host Central Connecticut in the final game, as the Blue Devils defeated Long Island, 1-0, in game one of the semifinals.</description>

Before the 1 p.m. kickoff, the Bobcats will honor their seven graduating seniors, playing in their final home game at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. The Bobcats most recently clinched a bid into the Northeast Conference tournament after they defeated Robert Morris, 3-0, on Oct. 30. This is the first time the Bobcats have appeared in the postseason tournament since 2004 where they lost in the first round to Central Connecticut, 3-0.</description>

This is the second time that Velaj has earned the Player of the Week honors this season, while Cook and Strassner were honored for the first time.</description>
