Women's Soccer Program Earns "Be A Fan" Award From Special Olympics Of Connecticut
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team recently received a 'Be a Fan' Award at the Seventh Annual Unified Sports Cup Awards Banquet hosted by the Special Olympics organization and Unified Sports. The banquet was held on Monday, May 10 in Plantsville, Conn, and recognized those who volunteer their time to better the community. Quinnipiac head coach Dave Clarke received the award in representation of the women's program and its' contributions over the past decade.

Women's Soccer And Intramurals Raise Over $600 In "Give Cancer The Boot" Fundraiser
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team, along with the Quinnipiac Intramurals Department raised over $600 dollars in the First Annual 'Give Cancer the Boot!' event on Saturday, May 1 at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. The event was played in sponsorship of a local Connecticut soccer player named Jamie Botteon who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Women's Soccer Hosts Annual Alumni Game On April 24
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team fell to their alumni counterparts by a score of 3-1 at the annual alumni game held on Saturday, April 24 at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. Senior Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland), who was playing for the alumni, was named the Most Valuable Player at the event as she scored the first two goals for the former players. Sophomore Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored the lone goal for the current team on the day.

Furtuna Velaj Named Women's Soccer Player Of The Year At Annual Banquet
Sophomore forward Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) was named the Quinnipiac University Women's Soccer Player of the Year at the team's annual banquet held last Friday. Senior defender Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) earned the Player's Player of the Year Award while freshman Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) was named the Young Player of the Year. Also honored was sophomore Chelsea Smith (Terryville, Conn.) who earned the team's Academic Player of the Year award on the evening.

Women's Soccer Announces Three National Letters Of Intent
Quinnipiac University women's soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke has announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent. Taylor Healey (Milford, Conn.), Rebecca Kiting (Canberra, Australia) and Aine McKeever (Derry City, Ireland) will join the Bobcats' roster for the Fall 2010 season. Healey and Kiting will serve as defenders for Quinnipiac, while McKeever will play at center midfield.

Women's Soccer Program Hosts Female Coaches Clinic On Sunday Mar. 28
Quinnipiac University Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke and his coaching staff will hold a Female Coaches Clinic free of charge this Sunday, Mar. 28, in the Quinnipiac Athletic Center. The clinic will be held in conjunction with the women's soccer spring-season game against Marist at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. The clinic will take place after the game and will run from 6-8 p.m. in the Athletic Center's conference room on the Mount Carmel Campus.

Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke Serves As Technical Director For Super Y-League Olympic Development Camp
Quinnipiac University Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke recently served as Technical Director of the United Soccer League Super Y-League National Olympic Development Camp in Tampa, Fla. It was the second consecutive year Clarke worked at the ODP Camp, helping select the best players to represent the Super Y-League and be considered for the United States Youth National Teams.

Soccer Star Scores Major Goals In Washington D.C.
Furtuna Velaj is most known for athletic prowess here at Quinnipiac University. She is a 5-foot-6 scoring machine who has a knack for the big goal. Since arriving here two years ago, Velaj has catapulted herself into the nation's spotlight as one of the current great point scorers in Division I Women's Soccer. Velaj has already started rewriting Quinnipiac's record books in the past two years of play. The soccer accolades pile up just like her game winning goals, but Velaj believes there is more to life than soccer.

Furtuna Velaj Named To NSCAA All-Northeast Region Third Team
Quinnipiac University women's soccer sophomore Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) NCAA Division I Women's All-Northeast Region Third Team. She earned the honor after her 30-point season with the Bobcats in 2009. This is the third postseason award for Velaj, as she received NEWISA All-New England honors last week and was named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team in early November.

Kemesha Woodfine Playing For Jamaica In CONCACAF U-20 Tournament
Quinnipiac University women's soccer freshman and Jamaica-native Kemesha Woodfine (Stamford, Conn.) is currently representing her home country in the Women's U-20 CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) Tournament. Woodfine has appeared in three games for the National U-20 squad so far, and has scored a goal and tallied an assist during her time on the field.

Velaj and Walleck Named To NEWISA All-New England Second Team
Senior defender Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore forward Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team were named to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association's All-New England Second Team, honoring notable women's Division I soccer players across New England. This is the third post-season accolade for Walleck, while it is the second garnered by Velaj.

Women's Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award
For the fifth consecutive season, the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team was named an National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic College Team for the 2008-09 academic year. To become eligible to receive this award, the entire team must accumulate a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 or above on a 4.00 scale. Quinnipiac was one of 326 programs across the country to qualify for this accolade.

Hanne Walleck Selected to Play In NEWISA Senior Bowl
Senior defender Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team has been selected as one of seven fullbacks to play in the 2009 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Senior Bowl scheduled for next month. Walleck will play on a team of 21 women's soccer players from colleges and universities throughout New England. The game is currently scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 6 at 12 p.m. The location has not yet been determined.

Two members of the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team were named to the 2009 Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team after their postseason appearance against Monmouth University on Nov. 6. Senior defender Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore forward Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) each earned a spot on the All-NEC team as announced by the conference this afternoon.

Jillian Strassner Named Northeast Conference Rookie Of The Year
Freshman midfielder Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced at the NEC Banquet this evening. Strassner also earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team alongside sophomore forward Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.), who earned a spot on that squad for the second consecutive season. Senior defender Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) was named to the All-Conference Second Team for her efforts on the Bobcats back line.

Women's Socer Falls To Monmouth, 1-0, In NEC Tournament
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team lost to Monmouth University, 1-0, this afternoon in the first round of the Northeast Conference Tournament hosted by Central Connecticut State. With the loss, the Bobcats end their season with an 8-7-2 final record with a 7-3-1 position in the NEC. The Hawks improve to 14-4-1 on the year, with a 9-1-1 stance in conference play. With the win, Monmouth advances to the Northeast Conference Championship game that will be played on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. The Hawks will take on tournament-host Central Connecticut in the final game, as the Blue Devils defeated Long Island, 1-0, in game one of the semifinals.

The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team will head to Central Connecticut State Friday, Nov. 6 to take on Monmouth University in the Northeast Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Bobcats will face off against the Hawks at 1:30 p.m., in their first postseason appearance since 2004. Biz Cook Named adidas/NEC Defensive Player And Rookie Of The Week
Freshman goalkeeper Biz Cook (Appleton, Wis.) of the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team was named the adidas/Northeast Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week after she helped the Bobcats shut out Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA) in their final regular-season weekend series, earning a bid into the postseason. This is the second time Cook has been recognized by the conference this season.

Senior Lindsay Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) scored the second goal of her career and the lone goal of the game as the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team defeated Saint Francis (PA), 1-0, Sunday afternoon in the Bobcats final regular season game. The win improves Quinnipiac's overall record to 8-6-2 with a 7-2-1 position in the Northeast Conference. The loss drops the Red Flash to 8-8-2 on the year, with an even 5-5 record in the conference. The loss eliminates Saint Francis from the NEC Tournament that starts on Nov. 6 at Central Connecticut.

The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team will host St. Francis (PA) in their final regular-season game of the 2009 season. Before the 1 p.m. kickoff, the Bobcats will honor their seven graduating seniors, playing in their final home game at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field. The Bobcats most recently clinched a bid into the Northeast Conference tournament after they defeated Robert Morris, 3-0, on Oct. 30. This is the first time the Bobcats have appeared in the postseason tournament since 2004 where they lost in the first round to Central Connecticut, 3-0.

Women's Soccer Sophomore Furtuna Velaj Named To CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 University Division Team
Quinnipiac University women's soccer sophomore Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) has been named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 1 University Division Second Team, as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America today. Velaj was one of two Northeast Conference players named to the three-team All-District 1 squad after carrying a 3.66 grade-point average in political science.

The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team will host Robert Morris Friday afternoon in their final weekend of regular-season play. Sophomore Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal in double overtime as the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team defeated Stony Brook, 2-1, Thursday evening. Freshman midfielder Jillian Strassner (Avon, Conn.) also scored for the Bobcats, good for her first collegiate goal, while Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) contributed the two assists. Quinnipiac's record improves to 1-1, while the Seawolves drop to 0-4-1 this season.

Women's Soccer Takes On Stony Brook Thursday, Sept. 10
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team travels to Stony Brook, N.Y., Thursday, Sept. 10 to take on the Seawolves in a non-conference game at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. This will be the first match-up between Quinnipiac and Stony Brook since the 2000 season.

Sophomore Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored the lone Bobcat goal as the Quinnipiac University women's soccer team dropped their season opener, 3-1, to Providence Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats' record drops to 0-1, while the Friars improve to 3-1 on the season.

Women's Soccer Picked To Finish Fifth In NEC Preseason Coaches Poll
The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team was picked to finish in fifth place of eleven teams in the 2009 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Bobcats closed the 2008 season with a 7-7-2 overall record and a 3-4-2 conference record, finishing sixth in the NEC.

Women's Soccer Senior Susan Donovan Chosen To Play For Irish National Team At World University Games
Quinnipiac University women's soccer senior Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland) has had a busy summer as a member of the Irish National Team at the 2009 World University Games. Donovan has seen action for Ireland against some of top international players in the world. Currently slowed by an injury, Donovan has been focusing on rehabilitation while also seeing some game action. She took the time over the last week to write Head Women's Soccer Coach Dave Clarke to chronicle her experience.
