Women's Soccer Ties Mount St. Mary's, 2-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team tied Mount St. Mary's, 2-2, Sunday afternoon. Quinnipiac's Amber Sidoti (Farmington, Conn.) scored in the 88th minute to tie the game and force overtime. The Bobcats' record now stands at 5-3-2 and 1-1-2 in Northeast Conference play while the Mountaineers improved to 2-11-1 and 1-2-1 in the NEC.

Colleen Regan put the Mountaineers on the board first in the 18th minute, when she pounced at a rebound on the goal line after Ieva Kibirkstis put a free kick into the box. Quinnipiac goalkeeper Jillian Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) punched it away from the goal, but Regan was waiting for the rebound and put a shot on goal

Quinnipiac's Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) tied the game, 1-1, in the 35th minute. Susan Donovan (Cork, Ireland) put a through ball between two Mount St. Mary's defenders. Del Mistro picked up the ball just above the 18-yard box and kicked it above Mountaineer goalkeeper Alicia Miller to the right corner of the goal.

Mount St. Mary's regained the lead, 2-1, in the 54th minute on Megan Haspert's first goal of the season. Nikole Gavriilidis made a centering pass inside the box to Haspert who fired a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net.

The Bobcats tied the game in the 88th minute as Sidoti headed a bouncing ball inside the box to the back left corner of the net. After a freekick sent the ball into the middle, it bounced off two Mountaineer defenders and into the air for the junior forward to head past Miller. The goal was Sidoti's second of the season.

Emily Menotti almost scored for Mount St. Mary's in the final seconds of the first overtime, but senior captain Kate Ahearn (Danbury, Conn.) kicked the ball away before it could cross the goal line.

Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) had the best scoring opportunity for either team in the second overtime as she broke down the right side and fired a low shot that was stopped by Mount St. Mary's Miller. Velaj had seven shots on goal to lead players.

Quinnipiac's Kelley made three saves in regulation before giving way to Kendra Margulies (Weston, Mass.) for both overtime periods. Miller made 17 saves in goal for the Mountaineers.

Quinnipiac returns to action Friday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., to take on the Blackbirds of Long Island University. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
