Quinnipiac Falls to Navy in ACRA Quarterfinals, 28-5

  First Half Second Half Final

No. 3 Quinnipiac University 5 0 5

West Point- N.Y. – The No. 3 Quinnipiac women's rugby team fell to No. 4 Navy on Sunday, Nov. 17, 28-5, at the Anderson Rugby Complex in the ACRA National Tournament Quarterfinals.  The loss marks the Bobcats third of the season as they close out their 2013 campaign 10-3 overall and 4-2 in Northeast Conference action.

The Bobcats who boasted one of the most demanding schedules of all collegiate rugby programs in the country, finished their season outscoring their competition, 567-200.

"Today marked the end of a great season for QU Rugby," said head coach Becky Carlson. "Two games back-to-back in rugby is hard on the student athletes bodies and while our best 15 was certainly not represented against the Midshipmen, we gave everything we had for 80 minutes."

Sophomore Natalie Kosko (Sebastian, Fla.) earned the Bobcats only points of the day, coming away with one try against the Rams.  Kosko finishes her sophomore campaign leading the Northeast Conference in scoring with 165 points this year.  In her two years with the program the wing has accumulated 280 points for Quinnipiac.

Joining Kosko in the books was senior Elena Orlando (Winters, Calif.).  Orlando once again teamed up with Kosko providing her with the ball for her only assist of the afternoon.  This weekend the duo connected six times resulting in a combatant force as one of the Bobcats biggest offensive threats on the field.

The first half posed new pressures for the Bobcats as they faced a resilient Navy team.  It was a first half battle between the two programs as the Rams would be the first one to get on the boards in the 12th minute of regulation.  After kicking a successful conversion the Bobcats found themselves down, 7-0, to start.  Quinnipiac wouldn't be able to find their tempo until the 33rd minute of the first half. The Kosko-Orlando duo would team up once again in Navy's red zone to get the Bobcats on the scoring sheet, 7-5. The deficit would take the Bobcats into halftime as they trailed by only two.

Unfortunately for the Bobcats, their offense went quiet and Navy's attack was fierce throughout the second half of regulation.  The Rams went on to score three consecutive times in the second stanza to give them a, 28-5, advantage over Quinnipiac before the final whistle blew.

Despite the loss today, the Bobcats mark their second consecutive season that Quinnipiac has competed in post-season play in their three years as a Division I program.
