West Chester, Pa. – The Quinnipiac women's Rugby team went on to defeat the West Chester University Golden Rams on Saturday, Nov. 2, 29-22 on the South Campus Rugby Pitch. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in Northeast Conference action. For the regular season, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents, 467-157.

"We got on the board early but with each score West Chester answered back," said head coach Becky Carlson.  "Our momentum went back and forth throughout the game but at the end of the day we secured the W in our final regular season match up."

Sophomore Natalie Kosko (Sebastian, Fla.) once again led Quinnipiac in scoring with 15 points for the Bobcats. Junior Shannon Durkin (Oakland, Calif.) and sophomore Devon Vieira (Kent, Wash.) each chipped in five points apiece.

Senior Allison Gnys (Cumberland, R.I.) finished with four points going 2-for-5 in conversions. Senior Elena Orlando (Winters, Calif.), sophomore Elisa Cuellar (Palm Bay, Fla.) and freshman Christie Albers (Castle Rock, Colo.) each finished with an assist.

A back and forth battle from the start, Quinnipiac was the first to post points in the contest. Kosko crossed the end line first after a pass from Cuellar to put the Bobcats on the board. Gnys would successfully kick the conversion giving Quinnipiac the early 7-0 lead. West Chester would answer back quickly within the next three minutes to cut the deficit, 7-5. Unfazed from West Chester's offensive effort, Quinnipiac posted back-to-back tries from Kosko and Durkin to extend their advantage. Durkin was able to find a gap in the 35th minute to give Quinnipiac the 19-5 edge. West Chester would score before halftime to close out the first stanza, 19-10, in favor of Quinnipiac.

The second half featured scoring on both sides with exchanges being made between the two teams. Quinnipiac's Vieira would open the second half scoring summary for Quinnipiac as she crossed the line for her 12th try of the season. West Chester made a final push in the closing minutes, but Quinnipiac's defense hung tough and closed out a 29-22 victory in its regular-season finale.

Next week, the Northeast Conference Playoffs begin. Quinnipiac, who finished first in their division, will receive a bye in the first round. The Bobcats will meet their opponent the following week and begin their quest for a Northeast Conference Rugby Championship.
